Any TDi lovers ? And a Hello

Post by DasTeknoViking » Sun Jan 22, 2012 12:22 am

Hello,
I dont come around the forums much, but I figured might intro myself.
My name is Mike, I service a bunch of local Rs and GTis as I'm a technician at a non VAG car dealer but have Audi certifications from the 90s. My daily ride is a 1996 Passat TDi sedan 5spd.

Many modifications under the hood
GT1749VB turbo - VNT Conversion from the stock GT15 Garrett wastegated turbo
PD130 intake manifold
Spearco front mount intercooler
Bosio DLC 1019 injector nozzles
12mm pump- not installed but will be at next timing belt.
2.5" Milltek DP with no cat
Custom Magnaflow 2.5" exhaust
SouthBend Stage 2 Endurance Clutch
TDT Tuning Stage 3+ ECU upgrade with 3 bar MAP sensor, all emisions deleted and speed density conversion
Poly bushings
Audi Coupe Quattro front brakes with MC upgrade
MKIV Aluminum rear calipers
BBS Moda Sport 16x8 wheels
HomeDepot lip mod
Raceland coilovers for summer
Bilstein TC/Neuspeed springs for winter
VDO gauges
Ecode headlights with HID
Euro switch with rear fog
MK3.5 Cabrio steering wheel with no air bags
B3 glove box mod
Car has 430K miles on it now, it averages 46MPG but I've seen as low as 42 and as high as 55. Has vent mod done so it will hold almost 21 gallons of fuel.
Approximate power is 180HP/370TQ @ 26psi- which I run daily.

Over the summer the car will get resprayed with all the lil dents taken out, tint done and possibly diff weels.
Plans for power mods are GTB2260VKL turbo upgrade
ARL Pistons
Rosten Rods
ported head
Colt Stage 2 cam
Possibly 6spd conversion
Looking to make about 280HP/500TQ daily with zero smoke, as right now there is very lil haze on my maxed out fuel set up. Passing power from 60-100 is better in this TDi at 180HP/370TQ is better than my moded R32.

Disregard that...But yes I am a fellow TDI owner, I have a 2010 Jetta TDI Cup Edition in Lazer Blue. Every option that came with it upon release and a 6 speed. Been a fabulous car with no issues!! The mileage is phenominal..best tank so far has been 727 miles on the way back from Boston, averaging 65-70MPH a passenger and AC on the entire time.

I regards to mods nothing really:
Euroswitch
LED License Plate lights
VAG-COM mods
3 sets of wheels/tires

Here are a few pics:

But love seeing some fellow TDI'ers on the sight and in the area :bananadance:

euro rub strips yes... good eye. Car is a blast to drive, it doesn't handle like a n R32 but it surely moves better :) I tend to drive the TDi very hard and average tank fill up is 800 miles, but I have seen 1100 once on a trip to Orlando !! 21 gallon gas tank has me covered, I think I could have hit 1200 but I didn't want to run out of fuel.

Feel free to PM me for work or questions.

I don't have many R32 pictures here, actually on vacation in FL right now.... :bananadance:

I've wrenched on a few hybrids.... when they make one that can get up to 400+K miles on the original engine, tranny, clutch AND turbo.... maybe I will be interested. At 420K miles I upgraded all my stuff as I doubled the engines power..... There are quite a few old TDi hitting close to 1 million miles.

old TDi > new TDi > hybrids.

I have a sticker on the back of my TDi;

rather not share those ! HAHA its stock looking under the hood with tons of hoses and wires for all my gauges. B4 TDi engine bay was always messy. I need to add a bunch of sound deadning material under the hood, the motor is super loud by new car standards, even 90s car standards

Hey whats up guys. I'm new on here as well, and to the Chicago area in general. Just moved up from the sunshine of Florida to the snow of Chi-town; not the smartest I know. I too have a diesel (MKV) and a MK1 GLI back home that I'm looking to bring up here, when I get a chance, or find a place to work on it. Haven't made it to any of the meets as of yet but plan to attend the future ones. Look forward to putting the names with the faces....and whats a first post without pics??

So I'm looking to put on a ported head on the Passat, Rosten rods with oversized PD150 pistons and larger turbo.... but I might do a BKD PD140 swap to get bigger numbers.

Looking to make around 290-300WHP and 400-430WTQ.... and still get 50MPG :) Something in the mid 13s would be great.

That sounds ridiculous. I support it 100% :bananadance:

I'm actually looking at doing a street toys S/T 1956 upgrade on mine but I'm weighing options. Anyone know a good diesel shop around here??

Stay away from Street Toys junk..... Depends on what kind of power your are after but a 17/22 is good for 200HP easily.

There are no good diesel shops around here... and if you find one it caters to the Big 3 trucks. And from what I see done to the local trucks I dunno if its the people who do these themselves or shops, tons of smoke and noise. My TDi hazes under full throttle, if you see BLACK smoke its overfueling and there isn't enough air to fuel being pushed into the motor. Proper tune > smoke, any day.

Seriously to make a sick TDi you need to have a Vag Com and internet resource. Lemme know what your goals are, I will push you in the right direction. Ofcourse be resonable with $$$ vs power, more $$$ more power usually

Even with 160ish HP and 300TQ you will have a fun car to drive, riding the fat torque wave is awesome.

Picked up a whole black leather interior for the beast today ! So I will be kind of busy when she gets back from the body shop.
Currently getting prepped for getting a whole exterior restoration in Porsche 911 Club Coupe Brewster Green.

Amazingly the car has zero rust and is in unbelievable shape for 16 years in the Midwest and 438k miles.

Progress on the torque monster:

and finally this is the color I picked out, Porsche Racing Green Metallic. I originally wanted Porsche 911 Club Coupe Brewster Green, but since Porsche is making just *5* of these overpriced Beetles I cant find paint for it anywhere. I found the paint code but no paint supplier can get it, so PRG Metallic it is. The door moldings, along with rub strips on the bumpers will be painted flat black so it looks like a EURO model Passat.
