CVO autocross in 2013

Post by imarcr2 » Wed Jan 09, 2013 5:59 pm

Props to the coordinators. I have always enjoyed racing with CVO.

Is CVO planning on hosting events this year?

In response to all the inquires about the 2013 auto cross season, there will be none.

Due to less than stellar attendance at a few events last year and increasing costs CVO will not be able to put on motorsport events.

CVO cruises and meets will still continue along with the strong enthusiast community that we have created.

We want to thank all of our members and guests that have joined in on our events over the past years, and all the hard work that was put in to each event and each year in making it a successful one.

We encourage everyone to run with other local clubs: Audi Club, Windy City Miata, SCCA NASA, Windy City BMW, Porsche Club of Chicago, and Tri-State.

I will be posting dates, location, and information from our local clubs for any and all events they will be hosting in order to give people alternatives.

Once again thank you everyone!!

That's too bad!!! In that case, please come-out and support Audi Club events:
Autox #1: April 20, 2013 (TireRack)
Autox #2: May 11, 2013 (Alexian Field)
Autox #3: August 25, 2013 (Alexian Field)
Autox# 4: September 28, 2013 (TireRack)

If you are not familiar with Audi Club autox, we have similar classing to CVO (A-E Class). We will also hand-out 'Beer Glass' for our 1st, 2nd place winner for each class, and 'Decal' for 3rd place; at every event. Feel free to check http://www.audichicago.org for more info.

That is sad news. I started my autocrossing hobby with the CVO circa 1999 and have been enjoying it thoroughly since then. I had too many autocross conflicts with the CVO last year to make any events other than the Treffen AX. I hope we get an opportunity to do it again someday.

As some may be looking for another autocrossing outlet. This is the right way to get involved in and learn autocrossing properly as opposed to just winging it as many do. It is perfect for novices, those that are slightly hesitant towards autocross, or just wanting to take your racing skill beyond your current level. You will learn solid car handling skills and what makes you fast through a course safely.

The instructors are very capable, patient, and willing to share their wealth of knowledge with you. In addition, you cannot beat the price for two solid days of personal instruction, tons of practice, and a competitive event at the end. All within a safe and structured environment. So sign up, come out, and have a blast!

Look for the Learning Curve section on this page:

Did it last year and I recommend it.
The morning of the first day is classroom where they cover safety and autox in general. Then you head out get paired with an instructor (2 people/instructor). You are paired with one that drives a similar car then you. Two short courses are set up and the field it's split in half, one for each course. Then each field is split further one drives while one works the course. After a few hours you switch course and do the same as on the first.
The second day is a traditional autox. The first session is all instructors while students work on course and/or watch. The second session is all students and instructors ride along for more help. The course is both courses from the previous day linked together.

I saddens me to hear these news  CVO was the club that introduced me to the AutoX world in 2007 and I enjoyed all their events, did not miss one event in the past 2 years and was looking forward to the new season with you guys. Even if I'm not a CVO member (not a volkswagen owner), you can count on me as a regular driver should you start organizing autocross events again.

This being said I was wondering who should I contact about picking up my 2012 trophy in X2 class?

I am truly bummed to read this. :( I did a full season of autocross with CVO years ago when I lived there and I was genuinely looking forward to the opportunity to run with you guys again this year as I am potentially buying another VW and live within reasonable distance to Chicago now. I understand that the effort has to be consistent with the reward, attendance, and profitability of doing it though.

Is there any chance that Treffen will have an AutoX though?
