FSI vs TSI

Post by Bo0stZombi3 » Thu Dec 09, 2010 12:11 am

Ok people here is the deal. If you had the choose which motor to buy witch would it be? I Know the issues with FSI which is leaning far away from it. Even though I can get them for CHEAP. The TSI is only few hundred more though.

FSI woes:
Pay more (for mods)
Have to deal with cam follower issues
Upgrade your HPFP
Upgrade your injectors
Deal with some smoke from the exhaust at WOT

FSI pros:
Has the same bottem end basically as a FSI
also it NOT a 20v 1.8t
I could pick one up right now
Imbo is cracked easily

TSI woes:
I would have to wait / look longer
I would have to get it shipped
No one has been able to full crack the imbo atm for it.

TSI pros:
No cam follower issues
No smoking
Most of the crap on the FSI is gone on this one (less to delete for a swap)
engine management is far superior in every way

Honestly cant stand vr motors. Unless its a R motor anyways.

Looks like I keep looking longer for the caddys motor.

I built one of the first ones to hit the brick wall of a head in 04 (made 456whp). Also built a 2871r mk1 1.8t a couple years ago.

The TSI is just 100x better then 1.8t could be.

Short of the VR as Greg mentioned, I would say the TSI. While the FSI seems to have better top range once you get the HPFP and all that, the TSI seems to be just about bulletproof, besides maybe the waterpump.

FSI. Gotta pay to play. In late 07 they changed a bunch of parts on the FSI upping the boost a little as well. I've got an 08 build in 07/07 and haven't had any problems at 48kmiles

2008.5 was the first TSI, but it was a different engine code than the 2009's. MkVI's share the same TSI as 09's except they no longer use a Bosch ECU. That's the reason APR and other tuning companies have to remove the ECU like the Mk3 days.
