Talk me into (or out of) this trade.

Post by bronson75 » Tue Aug 07, 2012 2:14 pm

I'm seriously considering trading this (mine):

for this:

Details on both cars:
Mine: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.p ... sat-GLX-V6 (will be updated with more information soon)
His: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.p ... -Jetta-VR6

I figure both cars are valued the same, so I would expect a straight swap. I've never done the Mk2 thing before (I've gone through A1s, Mk3s, B5, a 4000s and QSW thrown in for good measure). I drove a GLI 16v many years ago at Pauli's Imports in Rockford, and I loved it, I've always kept my eyes open for one that was accessible, and this may be it. It looks tastefully modded, low miles, minimal rust, etc. My car has a few minor issues, but nothing that stops it from being a very reliable DD. It's a good car, but I've never been attached to it.
I'm pretty excited about the prospects of this going through, but I'd love thoughts on it. Things to watch out for, stories of other trades gone right (or wrong), etc.
What say you?

Do it, there is something about an MK2 that just makes you happy when you drive it. And alpine white = sex

just make sure the floors and towers are rust free and it looks like a good trade.... I didn't read through his F/S add but make sure the timing chains are up to date.

One less Passat in CVO ;(

edit, never mind... I see its a 16V. I thought it was the ever-popular VR swapped car.

If thats the case just make sure the body is good ! Especially the rain gutters and what not. They tend to get expensive to replace. I had almost ZERO luck finding new gutters for my 87 4 door Golf few years ago.

I'll make sure I get some more detail photos before anything happens, he's in Dubuque, Iowa, if anything happens I'd expect to meet in the middle somewhere. From the photos, it looks pretty clean, and hopefully with 105k most other things will check out as well.
I'll keep the forums posted!

The trade is off, the owner decided he liked it too much to get rid of it.

Before deciding to trade anything or post it on the forums, please make sure you are certain that you really want to give up your car. originalwheel
