The interior I must say is really top notch!! Love the new layout inside with the center console and the new steering wheel. Unfortunately I am still on the fence about the exterior looks. As bronson75 mentioned is it quite high up even for the standard/base model. There are a lot of similarities to the Passat and Jetta that can be pulled from the front end. The rear does resemble the newly redesigned A3 hatch that we'll never get :realmad:

I'll wait for the GTi to premier at the end of the month to really draw my superficial conclusions. But the interior and the standard features are really nice including the weight loss of 220lbs. Want to hear other peoples thoughts as well...

P.S. VW bring the GTD over STAT!!! :evilmad:

Well it looks pretty good, weights less then a tank so that's a good thing as well! Now the power...still. 260 bhp from the gti?

no one really knows. numbers that's being kicked around is 220-230 for the GTI. maybe up to 275 or so for the R.

looks like it will get the valve lift version of the B8 motor. Which responds to a K04 rather nicely, APR just released their KO4 kit for the B8 and the dyno looks rather impressive.

I doubt the GTi will have more than 220HP.

the audi TFSI w/valvelift responds worse to tuning/turbo upgrades than the FSI/TSI motors in the MKV/MKVI GTIs.

These days VW makes such under powered engines...wtf!!! On the pics I've seen a traction control OFF button...hmmm wonder if that disables the stabilization as well or its gonna be messed up like the R....that's a selling point for me, lol.

I guess I'm gonna have to stick to the old school vdubs....

I highly doubt it seeing the VII comes with an electronic parking brake :slap:

Unfortunately with all the US "Safety Regulations" put into place due to the lack of responsibility/common sense by drivers now a days has caused a lesser sea of performance minded vehicles.

there are ways do deactivate all the stability/traction/other BS in the golf R and the newer GLI's. i'm sure tuners will find a way around it in the MKVII.

Well the MKVI has been out for quite sometime already and I haven't seen/heard of anything out there regarding this....but then again not my realm of research so I might have not come across it yet.

Not so sure, I just think tuners havent gotten grasp on how the tech works. APRs tune looks rather impressive for the B8 vs B7 2.0Ts.

you can be as unsure as you would like to be, but what i say is true.

also, by APR's claims:

B7 w/APR stage 1 makes 241hp / 292lb-ft
B8 w/APR stage 1 makes 234hp / 333lb-ft
TSI GTI w/APR stage 1 makes 254hp / 303lb-ft

B7 w/APR k04 makes 318hp / 338lb-ft
B8 w/APR k04 makes 313hp / 367lb-ft
TSI GTI w/APR k04 makes 366hp / 380lb-ft

sure peaks don't tell entire story, but looking at the graphs they really aren't very much different as to when power builds/drops off. the tech has been out for a while now. pretty sure even some of APR's reps said that the valvelift is nicer when stock, but they just haven't had success getting as much usable power of out it when tuned.

recently a guy with a k04 audi A3 dynoed along with a basically stock and a tuned golf R. his numbers were lower than the stage 1 R even though the tune should technically be on par with a stage 2 golf R.

I was quite shocked with John's numbers on is K04'd A3...thought it was the AWD and DSG that really hindered it, but knowing it was the valvelift system it's quite unfortunate.

Wonder if other companies will have more success with it or if it will be a semi level playing field.

can't blame the AWD system seeing as the stage 1 golf R got 253 whp and APR claims 306 chp on that tune. his A3 setup should be closer to a stage 1+ golf R which APR claims gets 335 chp. so that would be another 20-25 whp. so ~270 whp for a stage 1+ golf R vs 247 whp "equivalent" k04 A3... something isn't right and DSG is definitely not robbing that much extra power.

Yeah no you're right about that...there seems to be something missing along the way there. Has he contacted APR about it, and what are APR's number on that kit usually..
