yup, APR says all is well. they haven't done many A3 installs so not sure if there's much of a track record for normal numbers.

here's some funnies. without valvelift APR claims 366/380, with valvelift claim 346/377 for k04.

The fact that there is a 20whp difference between the two is insane. Torque numbers are close.

It's unfortunate that the performance numbers are so slighted between the motors.

And it's even worse that APR thinks/says that John's car is just fine. Curious to know if a different tune would make a difference.

it seems to run fine, dyno was good, just low. he says he's happy with how it turned out so who cares. still good #s.

either way, all this is speculation since we don't really have details on the next GTI engine. don't even really know what turbo it'll run, but most likely still the tiny k03 we currently have. plus it's supposed to have both direct and port injection, so who knows how that will play into tuning. plus with the exhaust manifold being cast as part of the head with the turbo just bolted on, will that make it easier or harder to upgrade turbo? probably easier to a point i think. so k04 upgrades might be even easier than they are now.

Electronic parking brake? Do not want. It looks okay, although in all honesty, it doesn't look all that much different than a MkVI. I know it's wider, has a shorter roofline, and the other proportions are different, but the actual look; it doesn't stand out like the difference of a Mk3 to a Mk4, to a Mk5, and to the Mk6 to a less extent.

A lot of people have been saying that. It seems that the MKVII has a lot of queues from the Passat...I.e. the bumper.

I was certainly expecting a major restyling and overhaul on the Golf seeing it is VW's flagship car.

Autoblog posted spy pics of an uncamouflaged mk7 R this week. They also posted about VW mulling over building a carbon GTI which would drop almost 450 lbs off a standard GTI.

Yeah the R pics looked very plain and simple....hoping that when the real R comes out it will be significantly more aggressive than what was recently seen.

The Carbon GTi would be awesome!! Did some small reading on it and that 400lbs+ diet would work wonders on these cars, but then I can see the price sky rocketing to 40k+ if not more

it was uncamouflaged but it wasn't the real R bits. it wasn't the front bumper that is going to be used or the rear. even the mirrors weren't the actual MKVII mirrors lol.

also, the carbon GTI would drop 450 lbs off a current-gen GTI. since the new golf is supposed to be 200 lbs lighter already, the carbon GTI would only drop another 200-250 off the MKVII GTI.

I'm not. I have my dream R in a form of a classic Passat with a proper TDi under the hood. Just saying they do not believe in hybrids

Only reason they're making a Jetta Hybrid is to show up Toyota and how to make a real hybrid

Seems like there is a lot to praise about the new MQB platform on the Golf....possibly better than Audi A3...?

Yeah that is a big let down....I hope they won't have issues with them like they did with the B5 Passats. Last thing VW needs is more gremlins of that sort

^ I have already heard about problems with them on the CC and Tiguan/Toureg...

having to be towed because the electronic parking brake won't release cannot be fun times!!!

My bigger concern is years down the line though.. what about a 5 to 7 year old car with these electronic parking brakes? How well will they keep working as they age?

Dawid B5 was the last good Passat generation. B6 used an electronic parking brake setup. Few coworkers have Audi and Passats with them and I never hear about any problems with them. I service these cars and even just did brakes on the A6 with vag com with no issues, fyi the A6 is a early model C6 with about 120k on it
