MK2 BT AWD Haldex

Post by Dubmekanik » Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:36 pm

Here are some pics from the latest project. TT transmission, R32 everything else. I personally haven't seen AWD in a mk2 done like this before, but I could be wrong.. Most awd mk2 conversions use synchro stuff, and there are a handful of folks using synchro suspension with special brackets made to hold the haldex diff. Started 3 days before x-mas. Tonight it's back on it's feet. Fuel cell, brakes, exhaust to go! Good by traction problems.. Modified by Dubmekanik at 1:53 AM 1/26/2010

Thanks for the compliments everybody! I am still deciding on whether to use a standalone Haldex controller, or mimic the TT stuff. They are 2 or 3 standalone controllers available overseas that allow percentage by gear, and some other cool features. I may make my own controller, as the Haldex clutch system is basically the same as a stepper motor for an ISV that we became very familiar with controlling for some of the standalone systems we've done. So for launch it can by 50/50 and we can remove the rear percentage in relation to speed or throttle position, or just leave it 50/50 all the time. There are also currently 2 standalone engine management systems capable of controlling the Haldex unit out of the box with a ton of setup involved. I'll post some more pictures in a bit. Thank god adjustable rear control arms are possible haha..Tires won't last long @ that angle. Modified by Dubmekanik at 10:29 AM 1/26/2010

awesome dude! super solid! So how much would this conversion cost a customer? cause FWD is the thing I hate about the mk2!otherwise lately I have been thinking e30/LS1...

You sir, are the man. You know that the second Conor see's this he's going to be asking the same question that Bryan just asked. The coupe needs this for sure. :D Hell, the MK3 might need this too. haha

Oh, and when I drop the Jetta off I'll bring out the molds for the flares so you can see about adapting them for the MK2.

No, still have the Big turbo 1.8t...Did 405 to the wheels, should be ok! Thanks for letting me borrow those springs, Jake. I gave them back to D they are a lot taller than what I have on there now. I am looking for a used R32 coilover setup if anyone knows of one.

haven't visited here in a while, but very nice, I like alot Now you need another CVO Gingerman day so I can come up and run w/ you. I remember years ago you having that car out there in whatever config it was then. Awesome evolutionSo are you bringing the ABS stuff over to that car from an R or TT as well? Any Oem system for haldex will be looking for the ABS speed sensors, the yaw control and the throttle position sensor and parking brake switch iirc. If you go stand alone, you will probably want to have it trail off from 50/50 to fwd rather than full time 50/50 for fear of burning up the haldex clutch packs right?
