Many of you have seen pics on my Phone already but here is my latest project in addition to my daily driven GTI:

Things that need to be done:

Replace steering rack
Fix parking brake (it works but not so well on inclines)
Replace clutch
The lower seals of the output shaft leak oil (probably the most time consuming thing to fix)

Things I want to do:

Swap the drum brakes for disk brakes
Re-upholster or out right swap the front seats
Install a tach (not a massive one but a small classy one)
Install classic Mini Cooper wheels

Sure if I had 8k to invest in the new sub frame mounting kit and engine+transmission. Trust me I looked into it, lol. Its not in the budget just yet.

Nice!!! I remember as a kid, someone had a Cooper very similar to that in my apartment building in Toronto. I used to drool over it all the time.

Yeah, All I need to really make it road worthy are Mirrors, Plates and Brakes. The brakes will be looked at in about a week.

I took it on its maiden voyage today to the gas station. 1st impression:

Its a pain to get into 1st gear and you cant hold the clutch on coming to a stop, you have to let off the clutch and get back on 2 change gear
The steering wheel vibrates in idle
The brakes work but you gotta push down on them hard!

Other than that its great! haha. Needs some work.

Nice Phil! Did you guys end up getting it to fit in the garage with the other two cars?

picked up my GF today and leaving her neighborhood she saw her first old school mini. squealed, and said "omg it's a little baby!" it was a nice orangish color, but seriously looked funny next to all the modern standard sized cars around it.

Very cool. What's the deal with driving old school minis in the U.S.? I thought I read somewhere that they are not street legal? Or maybe I misread that somewhere, obviously?

I have yet to see that any where. I have seen a few driving around and this car used to be a DD for the former owner.

So I finally got a chance to look at the Brake situation and WOW. Both of the rear brake cylinders were locked up, the front passenger side wheel cylinder was leaking (and soaked the brake shoe) so that one doesnt work either. Only the front driver side brake works. I also need 1 new wheel stud, and a set of tie rods. The wife will no longer be allowed to take it out for joy rides for till spring of next year after I do the disk swap. Painful but not completely unexpected.

Nice Mini. It brings back memories from childhood since my mom had one. Good luck with the project.
