Candy Coated R's Build

Post by Candy Coated R » Wed Aug 15, 2012 8:47 am

I will start out like everyone else introducing myself, I am Jason, I have been driving Vdubs since 1999, never put up a build thread, thought it might be good to put everything in one place. I started with a "99 Passat with KO4, Evoms intake, FM intercooler, Evoms GIAC software, and a 75 Shot of Nitrous. I then went to a G35 coupe, then an MKV GTI, an old Mini Cooper that I still have, and finally to Golf R. I bought it in February 2012, and yes it has taken this long to put a build thread together. seeing Johnny's, Dutch's, R time, and the bunch of other great builds, I feel like mine is nothing much, but I like it so far.

Car:

2012 Golf R w/Nav Candy White 4 door

Why I bought it:

-I am a sales rep in the Midwest, and cover 9 states, all of which have snow.
-Love turbo VWs, and now I don't have to upgrade to a KO4 for more $$$$$
-It's subdued, yet a blast to drive, like the GTI.
-I have all the luxuries of a $45,000 Audi A4, and more room.
-Usually just auto-x my mini, but might be fun to take the R sometimes
-I love Volkswagons!!!

This was my G35 coupe, it had Ksports coils on it the same as my R.

The GTI just had Evoms Intake, flash, and diverter nothing really crazy, but I loved it!

My Mini

Here is when I got it and installed my front plate to avoid tickets at O'hare airport.

With my MKV

My First Mod so I could take the little one around in style.

Image

My second Mod, Ksport coilovers, easy install, great ride, lots of adjustments!!!

Image

Image

Sitting pretty nice, not where it will be for winter!!

Image

Yakima installed, have both road setup, and King Cobras for my downhill set up.

Image

EVOMS intake from my MKV, EVOMS sent me the new elbow for the R everything else was reused.

Image

More to come I think, may do wheels, downpipe, maybe exhaust, thinkgs may move a little quicker here, but we will see. Not really into the OEM plus scene, especially the black head lights. I have a price list from Germany where my company is, and actually the Black and Chrome cost more than the all black, crazy!! LED Tails though, I would like, $650 seems a bit much, I think I can find other things I want for that.

More pics to come!

I don't drive it everyday, but also never see anyone with modded VWs, they are somewhere! I have been at the Tuesday meets in Schaumurg.

Ah, I remember seeing your car now. Mostly because it was the only low Golf R there. I live in Woodstock but work in Schaumburg.

Actually, I was talking to a guy I saw driving a CW Golf R the other day and he's in Woodstock as well.

I just dropped my R off at GT Haus, they are designing a new Turbo back exhaust for the R. Should be pretty sick, I have seen a bunch of their current projects, and it is impressive. I am sponsored by them, so we should see some updates soon. I will post them here :bananadance:

I am going with an HPA tune, so I have to pull my ECU soon. The R will be back in 4 weeks. :slap:

Nice! It's cool to see someone go out of the ordinary, because GT Haus is not common on VW's yet, and HPA is new to the 2.0T world. Well, newer I should say. Curious to see the numbers since my GTI is also an FSI with a KO4. Just not the S3 internals and AWD.

It will be interesting, hoping to see some pictures next week from Meisterschaft. Darryl from HPA said that the program is adaptive, so with the Down pipe and exhaust it will adjust. I am interested to see numbers also. I would like to check out your car sometime, I did not know you were K04'd. :hmmm:

Got some pics today, not as great as I hoped, I used my 30D Canon, but maybe it was the lighting. I will have better tomorrow. I didi a GoPro Hero 2 vid, but the sound is crap. Anyway let me know what you think. The new Meistershaft exhaust sounds amazing. With the valve open, all hell breaks loose, but with it closed it is easy to cruise through the neighborhood unnoticed.

I will agree that the sound out of the exhaust is incredible, granted no Wookie sound but a very mean sound!

I'm assuming the stickers are for sponsorship reasons?

I wish it gave HPs, I am sponsored by GTHaus. I am under contract to have them on for a year. Great people there, so I don't mind at all. Plus the exhaust is sick!!

Very cool!! Mine is the 1.3 l, dyno was at 93 WHP. It's not perfect, but totally road worthy, going to make sure all is good on it this winter and try to do some drives with it.
