Detailing Madness

Post by N2N » Fri Jul 22, 2005 3:28 pm

Well, since I posted that I was back in the detailing business, I've been
getting plenty of IMs asking me how to do this or that. Therefore, I'm
starting this thread so you can ask me questions, and I can share the
answers publically.

Please review the following glossary of terms to better follow the thread:

Product Glossary:
Cleaner - non-abrasive liquid compound used to remove chemical imperfections in paint

Cut Cleaner - abrasive liquid compound used to remove physical imperfections in paint

Swirl/Scratch Remover (SMR) - a very mild Cut Cleaner used to remove minor swirls and scratches, but marketed for the general consumer

Glaze - an extremely mild Cut Cleaner used to remove micro swirls and scratches, also contains essential oils, providing shine

Polish - liquid compound with essential oils found in paint, a "pure polish" does not contain *any* abrasives, deepens paint color

Polymer Sealant - man-made final coat product, used after all prep work has been performed (NXT, Nu-Finish, Meguairs Nos. 20 and 21)

Wax - natural final coat product, almost always carnuba wax, used after all prep work has been performed (P21s, Meguairs No. 26)
